In each country and community our projects are tailored individually to address the most pressing problems that children, their families and communities face. However, sometimes problems are so widespread that they take global movement to eradicate. The first of these global campaigns was the Universal Birth Registration campaign. This campaign helps increase registration of children’s birth and as a consequence provides children with citizenship documents, so that they can enjoy state-sponsored education and healthcare as well as work and legally own property and. This campaign achieved large successes in countries including Pakistan, China, Thailand and Peru. Building on our experience in the ‘Universal Birth Registration’ campaign, in 2008 we will launch we launched ‘Learn Without Fear’, our campaign to stop violence in schools. Violence in schools requires global attention, because too many countries have failed to introduce even the most basic laws to protect children from violence in school, and even in countries that have introduced legislation, laws are too often not enforced. The campaign, to be launched in 2008, will prioritise corporal punishment, sexual violence and bullying. In a worldwide consultation with Plan community representatives, these three issues emerged as the main forms of violence suffered by children in school.
