On June 20th, 2008, Plan China signed Memorandum of Understanding on Disaster Relief for Wenchuan Earthquake with the
Management Center of Foreign Funding Project of Sichuan provincial Poverty Alleviation Office. People participating in this ceremony were Chief Director of Plan China James Richard Murray, Sponsorship and Grant Support Manager of Plan China Liu Zhongliang, Director of Foreign Funding Project Management Center Sichuan Poverty Alleviation Office Liu Weijia, Deputy Director of Foreign Funding Project Management Center Feng Kenu,and other concerned investigators and project officers of Foreign Funding Project Management Center. Before the signing ceremony, director of FFPMC Liu Weijia , introduced the basic information of international poverty alleviation cooperation managed by FFPMC, Sichuan Poverty Alleviation Office to guests of Plan China, elucidated the Chinese government’s policies regarding the work of emergency relief and reconstruction ,and used medias to introduce the investigation conditions carried out by FFPMC in the heavy disaster areas of the earthquake in detail. Finally, the two parties reached agreement on each item of the memorandum and signed the memorandum in a sincere and friendly atmosphere. According to the memorandum’s relevant regulations, Wenchuan Earthquake relief project in Sichuan province will be carried out in Xiaoba town of An county in Sichuan province. Plan China intends to provide 700,000 RMB that will be used to purchase and distribute the goods by FFPMC. The suggested goods are regarding to rice, oil and quilts which are used to help the target families and the very poor people. During the process of distribution, the concerned inspectors will inspect the whole process and after that Plan China will make a random sample to ensure the goods distributed to the target group. Relevant connections: Xiaoba town is one of the severe disaster areas in An county in the 5.12 earthquake. There are 7 villages and one street community, which have 2,950 families and the total population of 9,670 all suffering from the earthquake, thereof, 86 people dying of the earthquake, 1,468people being injured , 6 people disappearing . It lost 905,000,000 RMB due to the earthquake, thereof the production of industry and agriculture lost 535 million RMB, and fundamental facilities lost 36 million RMB, social things 117,000,000 RMB and rural and urban housing 279 million RMB.
