On 16th September 2010, Plan China and the Shaanxi Women’s Federation held the signature ceremony, at which both of the two parties signed a new strategic cooperative agreement. At the same time, two agreements on Disaster Relief Projects were signed as well concerning the relief work to be conducted in cities of An Kang and Han Zhong which were severely hit by flood and landslides in July. Present at the meeting were the leaders concerned including Mark Leighton, Country Director of Plan China and the Country Management Team, Liu Lige, the Chairperson of Shaanxi Women’s Federation and Zhang Ying, the Vice Chairperson as well as Chen Xiaojiang，the head of International Liaison Department of Shaanxi Women’s Federation. At the ceremony, Mark Leighton said, “Plan China is very pleased to be renewing the longstanding strong partnership with SWF which has now been in operation for more than ten years. We are strengthening and extended our joint strategic and operational coordination in Shaanxi province in order to respond as effectively as possible to the rapidly changing needs of children, young people and women and the issues of social justice and fulfillment of rights that they face during the continuing rapid socio-economic changes in China. In addition, we wish to formulate our ‘Community Children’s Center Programme’ jointly and make the child rights advocacy as a significant new direction in the future.” Madame Liu Lige, the Chairperson of Shaanxi Women’s Federation, emphasized, “The Shaanxi Women’s Federation attaches great importance to the cooperation with Plan China. Especially in the years, the both sides have increased investment in the work in Shaanxi and in south Shaanxi, which has achieved great reputation from the masses and has embodied the perfect cooperation.” Meanwhile, Madam Liu Lige complimented Mark Leighton on his commitment to the partnership and to working with and for children in China and thanked Plan China for its work and for the professionalism and dedication of all Plan China staff. Coordinated with Shaanxi Women’s Federation, Plan China provided relief goods worth RMB 300,000 to 2300 children who have been severely affected in the flood and landslides happened in south Shaanxi in July and are living far away home now, including students’ bed sheets, quit covers, pencil-boxes, flashlights and wash kits, etc.. On the morning of 16th September, the two parties signed agreements concerning this relief projects. Briefing on cooperation between Plan China and Shaanxi Women’s Federation In April 1999, Plan China signed the first cooperation agreement with Shaanxi Women’s Federation, and since then, Plan China started its ten-year strategic cooperative partnership with Shaanxi Women’s Federation. Currently, Plan operated programmes benefiting children, youth and women in five state poverty counties and one province poverty county in Shaanxi, and responded disasters happened in Shaanxi positively through relief work and reconstruction projects during the years. Till now, Plan’s accumulative investment in Shaanxi Province is RMB 320 million. |
