Ma Guansheng, the vice president of Chinese Association for Student Nutrition and Health Promotion, introduced the achievements made in the Shaanxi Rural Children Nutrition Improvement Project implemented under the joint efforts with Plan China. As reported by Hu Xiaoqi, the Under-Secretary-General of Chinese Association for Student Nutrition and Health Promotion, the sample investigation, questionnaire, physical examination and blood biochemistry test conducted after the nutrition intervention has been implemented one year revealed that all the indicators of targeted students were above the non-targeted students and so were their height and weight. At the same time, they are more aware of health than the non-targeted students. Plan China has taken a series of project intervention measures in the eight schools of Yu Yang District and Chun Hua County for over a year, including the nutrition and health education for students, teachers, school cafeteria staff and children’s parents, necessary equipment provided for school cafeteria, one egg a day and microelement supplement, which directly benefited more than 5000 students. “I have three meals at school now. We have many choices for our breakfast, eggs, milk, beancurd and soybean milk, etc. We even have meat once or twice every week. My mom doesn’t have to worry about my breakfast.” Said Xiaoli, an 11-year-old girl in Chun Hua County. ![]()
