On 11th May , Plan China and Hanzhong Women's Federation held first anniversary on 5.12 earthquake and post-disaster reconstruction program promotion meeting in Ningqiang County, Shaanxi Province. The participants include representatives from Hanzhong Women's Federation, Standing Committee of NingQiang County, representatives from women’s federations and education bureaus in NanZheng, NingQiang and LueYang counties, Plan China staff and leasers of project schools. At the meeting, representatives from all sides, together with Plan China, jointly summarized the earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction work in the past one year. Moreover, they analyzed the new situation and problems facing the current post-disaster reconstruction work. All of the participants have expressed their determination to ensure the earthquake relief work conducted by Plan China be finished with high quality and standard by the end of June; ensure School Reconstruction Project in NingQiang County be fully completed by the end of August; ensure students can move to the new teaching buildings by the beginning of September. Meanwhile, in order to remember the dead, arouse students and teachers’ thoughts on “life, existence and living” and cultivate pupils’ healthy and optimistic attitude towards life, on 12th May Plan China organized a “Poem Recitation and Speech Contest” in the brand-new DaYing Elementary School, NanZheng County, which was rebuilt by Plan. Such leaders as chairwoman of NanZheng Women's Federation were present at the contest. When the childish-voiced students were passing their wishes to the survivors, passing their prayers to the dead and giving their thanks to those who have devoted themselves to earthquake relief and post-disaster reconstruction work, the participating members can feel the strong shock in their hearts. A poem titled if , which was written by the students, said: “If I had a magic pen, I will write ‘gratitude’ on the blue sky…” All the present members were deeply touched. A year has gone by, and people are still heart-wrenching when they look back. However, the best remembrance of the dead is to live a better life. It has been one year since the earthquake. Bright-colored flowers are blooming on the ruins; eye-catching teaching building have sprung up among the blue mountains; sunny smiles are shining on people’s faces. All of these are showing that earthquake-stricken people will live a better life, which is also the prayer and wish from all Chinese people! |
